Biography

Ulices Alfonso was born on December 14, 1985 in Havana, Cuba, the city where he discovered and developed his passion for the arts.

During his high school years, Ulices joined an art group led by a professor from the Academy of Fine Arts San Alejandro. In this group, Ulices was involved in the creation of several street murals and collective exhibitions at the Wifredo Lam Gallery.

In February 2019, Ulices' work was exhibited at the Visions of Cuba exhibition in Key West, Florida. In 2018, he showcased part of his Abandoned and Mystical Convictions Series at the Art Basel collateral Fridge Art Fair at the Langford Hotel in Miami, FL. In 2017, Ulices was the winner of a competition by Interior Ink which specializes in custom printed décor. This same year, his work was presented at the Chocolate & Art Show, the AC Gallery Los Angeles in Wynwood, FL and the Basel Windows at Macy’s South Beach curated by WYN 317 Gallery.

Ulices depicts his characters with a halo above their heads to suggest the paradox of both the light and the dark within us. An expressionist painter with a philosophical and mysterious approach to art, Alfonso’s work focuses on colorful, enigmatic characters who come together as a tribe of unidealized figures that defy objectification.
